Selecting a Major Pre-Health is NOT a major at The University of Arizona, and a science major is NOT a prerequisite for medical school. Successful applicants come from all departments, and students are encouraged to major in an area of genuine interest. The biological sciences all require the same introductory courses, and because choosing a major is not required until the end of the sophomore year, students may wait until completing introductory Biology 181 before choosing a major. However, non-science majors are encouraged to minor in biology, chemistry, physiology , or pre-health thematic minor, which would add an additional nine upper-division unites to the basic chemistry and biology courses.
